University of Iowa Student Dies from Cold on Campus

IOWA CITY, IA (Ben Caxton) — The body of a University of Iowa student has been found on campus and officials there say the death was weather-related. KCRG-TV is reporting that 18-year-old Gerald Belz was found behind an academic hall just before 3 a.m. Wednesday by campus police. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Officials have not released the cause of death but told the television station that they believe it to be related to the dangerously low temperatures at the time he was found. His family says that doctors did not find alcohol in his system. So far eight deaths attributed to the recent cold snap have been reported across the midwest.
