Marklein Blasts Evers Budget Proposals

SPRING GREEN, WI (Ben Caxton) — Republican Senator Howard Marklein of the 17th Senate District blasted Democrat Governor Tony Evers first biennial budget proposal as “a wish list of things for his donors and supporters in Milwaukee and Madison. Evers presented his budget plan for state government in Wisconsin for 2019 – 2021 to the State Legislature last night. Senator Marklein says Governor Evers proposes spending $84-billion, which is nearly $9-billion more than the last state budget. The Republican from Spring Green says he isn’t sure where Evers expects to find the money for an 11% increase in spending. Marklein says that while there are some ideas in the proposed budget he supports, like continuing the UW tuition freeze, funding for rural broadband, directing more funding to rural roads, water quality programs and rural school funding, he’s not sure he agrees with the Governor on how to achieve those goals.
