VIROQUA, WI (Ben Caxton) — A dashboard fault light might have saved a Richland Center man from injuries while traveling through Vernon County on Sunday. 41-year-old Andrew Olson told Sheriff’s Deputies that as he was headed westbound on Highways 14 and 61around 4:15 PM when a dashboard indicator lit up reporting a battery fault and he noticed a bit of smoke inside the vehicle. As he pulled over to the side of the road the car stalled and heavy smoke and flames started to come from the engine compartment. At that point, Olson got out of the car and moved safely away. By the time the first Sheriff’s Deputy arrived the car was fully engulfed in flames. The large fire caused the highway to be shut down for a time while the Viroqua Fire Department battled the flames.
