Grant County Wants to Sell Old Jail Property

LANCASTER, WI (Ben Caxton) — With the opening of a new jail facility in Grant County just around the corner, the county is looking to sell the current building and property. For now though posting that sale is being delayed, waiting for communications gear at the current site to be relocated. The jail site consists of eight parcels of land which normally would be worth about $500,000. But any buyer will have to deal with demolition of the jail and associated buildings which means a recent survey pegged the value of the property at less than 10% of that – less than $50,000. Before moving ahead with the sale a site will have to be selected for a new radio communications tower for county dispatch services.
