Boscobel Ammonia Leak Causes Highway Closure

BOSCOBEL, WI (Ben Caxton) — Highway 61 was closed and residents warned to shelter in place near Boscobel Saturday evening as an anhydrous ammonia tank in a field sprang a leak. People were warned to stay inside, close all vents and windows, and shut off all heating and air conditioning units to keep the toxic gas from entering their homes. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department closed Highway 61 from Marietta Valley Road to the Boscobel bridge while a hazmat team was brought in to contain the spill which took about an hour.
