Eyewitness to Appleton Firefighter Shooting Speaks

APPLETON, WI (Ben Caxton) — A firefighter was killed and several others – including a police officer – were wounded Wednesday night in Appleton. This is what eyewitness Tori Mourning had to say to WBAY TV “I saw the guy shoot a female and she went down and then another shot was fired and then there was another male and he went down and then I saw the shooter flee.” Police say they were handling a medical call at a bus stop when someone started shooting. Police Chief Todd Thomas says police and fire responded to a medical call for a man who appeared to be suffering from a seizure. The man was treated but then displayed a gun and exchanged shots with officers “A female bystander who has not yet been identified was struck by gunfire and is in stable condition. One of our officers suffered a gunshot wound. He was released from the hospital earlier today. The 47-year-old male who was transported to the hospital has died from his injuries.” The firefighter killed has now been identified as Mitchell Lundgaard.
