SOLDIERS GROVE, WI (Ben Caxton) — Tainter Creek Stream day is returning this Saturday, timed to coincide with Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend which allows anyone to fish without having to buy a fishing license or trout stamp. The event will be held between Towerville and Star Valley on County Highway B in a pasture on the Mark and Bonnie Olson farm. A variety of activities will be held creekside between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM including casting lessons for both spin- and fly-fishers, games, fly-tying instruction, stream entomology, stream monitoring, and discussions about grazing and stream restoration. Door prizes will also be available for the kids. The DNR’s Fisheries Management crew will be doing a stream electroshocking at 10:30 AM with a tour of the restoration project underway just downstream at the County Highway C bridge near Star Valley at 11:30 AM. A free lunch will be offered at 12:30 PM as well.
