KEY WEST, FL (Ben Caxton) — This Saturday, starting at 6:15 AM, an Onalaska man will be go for a swim in the Florida Keys. But it’s not your average vacation swim. Local swimmer Bryan Erdmann plans to swim all the way around the island of Key West, about 12-1/2 miles in all, in an effort to raise money to pay for swim lessons for local kids at the YMCA. Bryan learned to swim at the “Y” and eventually earned a Division I swimming scholarship and wants to give back to the community. He told WXOW-TV his wife will accompany him on his swim, following in a kayak, and when he finishes he plans to eat, fall asleep on the beach, and give up swimming for a while.
