Spring Green Board Rejects Plan for Dog Breeding Facility

SPRING GREEN, WI (Ben Caxton) — The Town of Spring Green is closing the door on an animal breeding operation that would have sold beagles to medical researchers. Town leaders originally approved the plan, but changed their minds Thursday night, after an outpouring of complaints from activists and residents like Marnie Polivka. “So we’ve been doing a lot of research, gathering the data and sending it to everyone we can, we’re thrilled the town has taken a stance on this,” Polivka says she was opposed to the facility for many reasons. “Yes it’s an ethics question, but more in Spring Green, it’s a groundwater, it’s a crop, it’s a land quality issue.” The Sauk County Board will have the final say at its meeting on the 23rd.
