Pilot in Fatal Viroqua Gyroplane Crash Identified

VIROQUA, WI (Ben Caxton) — Authorities have released the name of the pilot killed in a gyroplane crash near Viroqua. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears says the pilot was 65-year-old Jack Wuolle of Genoa. Authorities say Wuolle’s gyroplane crashed shortly after takeoff around 6:30 p.m. Monday at Viroqua Municipal Airport. Witnesses told police they could see the aircraft leaving the airport, heard the engine stop and saw the gyro descend. Police say the single rotor detached from the aircraft upon impact, and the body of the gyro continued another 40 feet before coming to rest in a cornfield.
