Driver Who Crashed into Beaver Dam School Charged

BEAVER DAM, WI (Ben Caxton) — The driver accused in a fiery crash that punched a hole in Beaver Dam Middle School is headed to trial. `Twenty-two-year-old Roy Cortez waived his right to a preliminary hearing this week and is scheduled for arraignment October 2. Investigators believe his vehicle was traveling up to 90-miles-per-hour when it slammed into the school the night of August 21. Officers observed a large fireball and heard a loud thud. The impact destroyed an electrical transformer and created a seven-foot wide, 30-foot tall hole in the brick building. Costs to repair that damage are north of 100-thousand dollars.`
