Train Wins in Collision with Boat & Trailer

CASSVILLE, WI (Ben Caxton) — Boats aren’t usually seen flying through the air. But that’s what happened in Grant County just before 10:00 AM Sunday morning when a boat and trailer were hit by a train near Cassville. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says Conductor Michael Bullock, Conductor, and Engineer Dustin Hennigar were operating a Locomotive for BNSF railway when 23-year-old Mitchell Niehaus of Platteville drove his 2018 Chevrolet Silverado across the tracks at a boat landing in front of the train. The truck was towing a trailer with a 14 foot 1996 Starcraft boat behind. The truck cleared the tracks. The boat did not and was struck by the oncoming locomotive. The train went through the boat and trailer and the boat was ejected from the trailer and carried about 150 feet from the crossing. The trailer tongue and a section of frame was all that was left attached to the truck. The piece of trailer collided with a parked unattended truck parked next to the cabin and the truck came to rest against the cabin. No injuries were reported and the crash remains under investigation.
