Transmission Line Opponents to Meet

BARNEVELD, WI (Ben Caxton) — Opponents of a proposed electrical transmission line through southwest Wisconsin between Dubuque and Madison have announced they will be holding a public meeting in Barneveld today. The topic will be to discuss the recent state approval of the $500 million project and options for appealing the decision in state and federal courts. The Driftless Area Land Conservancy and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation say the 345-kilovolt line, which follows existing power lines through the area along most of its route, will “permanently damage” the Driftless region and plan to file a court challenge. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight at the Barneveld American Legion on Wood Street.
