Kind Urges Dairy Farmers to Sign Up for Insurance

LA CROSSE, WI (Ben Caxton) — Representative Ron Kind is encouraging Wisconsin dairy farmers to sign up for the Dairy Margin Coverage program after the United States Department of Agriculture announced last week that the deadline to sign up was extended to this Friday, September 27. The program offers protection for dairy farmers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer. People who want to sign up for the program should visit their local Farm Service Agency office. Kind said in a statement that while Wisconsin dairy farms are the backbone to the state’s economy, the last few years have been tough, so he encourages residents to take advantage of the program while it is still available.
