Students Encouraged to Apply for Scholar Program

LA CROSSE, WI (Ben Caxton) — The Wisconsin State Senate Scholar Program is currently accepting applications from high school students aged 16 to 18. The Senate Scholar Program is a week-long educational program offered by the Wisconsin State Senate that provides high school students with a hands-on, up-close view of the Legislature’s role in our democracy. Senate Scholars gain experience in such diverse areas as policy development, constituent relations, and processing legislation by working with senators, legislative staff and University of Wisconsin faculty. In recent years, the Coulee Region has had several students participate in this exciting program. Senator Jennifer Shilling is encouraging local students, schools, and teachers to learn more about the program saying in a statement that it’s a great way for students to “see how our government functions and gain valuable hands-on experience.” Information can be found online at or by calling (608)261-0533. All applications for the 2020 Senate Scholar program are due by November 8.pc,vq
