Vernon County’s Eitland Charged with Misconduct in Office

VIROQUA, WI (Ben Caxton) — Former Vernon County Human Services Director Pamela Eitland has been charged with misconduct in office. A criminal complaint filed last week against Eitland , who resigned late last month, says she took more than $5,200 from a county program to pay for dental work for her family. The investigation was sparked in July after the City of Westby got a check from Vernon County to pay the utility bill of Eitland’s sister. That led to the discovery by the Vernon County Clerk of more checks from the Vernon County Human Services Department paid to the Westby Dental Clinic between 2015 and 2019. The money prosecutors say went to cover dental bills for Eitland’s sister, mother, and stepfather. Eitland is scheduled to make her first appearance in Vernon County Court on October 29. The charges are considered a Class I Felony and she faces up to three and a half years in jail and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
