Out-of-town Address Costs Prairie Du Chien a Fire Chief

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI (Ben Caxton) — Prairie du Chien’s residency requirements have cost the city a fire chief with over 40 years of experience, including 12 years as chief of the Boscobel Fire Department. Jeff Boughton submitted his resignation effective November 18 after the police and fire commission twice voted to deny his request for an exception to the rule. Boughton took over the position at the end of December 2017 for former chief Harry Remz, who had retired. His resignation was accepted by a unanimous vote of the Prairie du Chien City Council at their Tuesday night meeting.
