Sparta Schools Back in Session Today

SPARTA, WI (Ben Caxton) — Police say there was “no direct threat to safety” after investigating an incident that caused a lockdown at Sparta High School on Monday and the cancellation of all classes in the district on Tuesday. The actions were called a “precautionary” measure as a response to a missing handgun, and a student the school could not locate who may have been in possession of the weapon. Police though say no crimes were committed and no threat to the school was ever expressed, determining that the student was “within his legal authority” to have held the handgun. Despite the findings there will be an increased presence by law enforcement at district schools today as students and staff return.
