Elkader Police Searching for Man Who Followed Student Home

ELKADER, IA (Ben Caxton) — Two incidents involving students being followed by a “suspicious person” in the past few days in Clayton County have sparked a response from Elkader Police. Around 7:45 PM Monday a student reported that a man had followed him from the school’s front entrance as he walked to his car about a block away. When he got in, the man got into a black truck which had been parked directly behind him. The man in the truck followed the student for the more than 8-mile drive to the student’s home in St. Olaf before turning off and disappearing down a gravel road. In a similar incident on North High Street by the Dollar General store, a woman reported to police that she had been followed by a man in a truck. As a precaution police are increasing patrols in the area. The vehicle has been described as a lifted black truck with loud exhaust with orange clearance lights on the cab. The subject is said to be a white male, 19 to 30 years old, between 5-7″ and 6′ tall with a muscular build. He had a dark-colored goatee and was wearing an all-black hoodie and jeans. Anyone with information is asked to please call the Clayton County Dispatch Center at 563-245-2422 or Elkader police at 563-245-3110.
