Wausau Moves to Make Snowballs Legal Again

WAUSAU, WI (Ben Caxton) — Wausau Mayor Robert Mielke found himself in the national crosshairs earlier this month when national media outlets began reporting false information about Wausau’s snowball throwing ordinance. Mielke says the ordinance from the sixties bans people from throwing a lot of objects, including snowballs. It’s still a problem for police. “People using crossbows or bows and arrows. We’ve had people throwing sandbags from the top of our parking structures. Well obviously you’d like to think common sense would dictate, but if it’s anything that’s taught me after this, sometimes I don’t think common sense is always there.” The word “snowball” would be removed from the ordinance leaving it to cover arrows, stones, or other missiles or projectiles.
