Rural Revelers Get Safe Ride Help from Local Bars

VIROQUA, WI (Ben Caxton) — Owners of a local Westby bar are taking the lead in helping rural revelers get home safely, just in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The La Crosse Tribune talked with Shanna Jensen, owner of Bleachers in Westby who is trying to help close the gap between the time taxi services stop around 9:00 PM, and most bars close at 2:30 AM. She told the paper she is modeling local efforts in La Crosse and Vernon Counties after a similar effort in the Green Bay area. The service is available to all members of the La Crosse County Tavern League. Bar goers should ask their local barkeep if they offer the service, and if so, a ride will be provided, paid for up-front by the bar.
