LANCASTER, WI (Ben Caxton) — The University of Wisconsin-Extension will have a “water quality person” on staff this year to provide expertise and information to residents of southwest Wisconsin. That information was given to the Grant County Board of Supervisors at their December meeting by District-5 Supervisor Roger Guthrie of Bagley during committee reports. Guthrie is a member of the county Ag and Extension Education/Fair Committee that works with the UW-Extension office based at the Youth and Ag Building in Lancaster. Guthrie says the money was allocated in the State budget for the position. He also says the person was hired not to work with or assist with the Southwest Wisconsin Groundwater and Geology Study, but instead to provide assistance to local residents on water quality issues. The “water quality person” would work with residents of Grant, Iowa, Lafayette and Green Counties. Guthrie said he did not know when the person would be hired.
