Grant County Inmate Attempts to Kill Corrections Officer

BOSCOBEL, WI (Ben Caxton) — Authorities say a prisoner, twice convicted of murder and being housed at the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility tried to kill a corrections officer this week. The incident occurred Monday morning shortly before 9:00 AM when 47-year-old Dexter Ewing attacked a 42-year-old male Correctional Officer with a shank. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the incident. and found that Ewing had attempted to stab the Correctional Officer in the neck, in an attempt to kill him. The victim and another correctional officer were able to disarm Ewing prior to him causing serious injury to the victim. The victim was taken to Gunderson Hospital in Boscobel for treatment of his injuries, which included a wound on his neck and face. He was treated and released. The matter will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney’s Office for a charge of attempted Homicide against Dexter Ewing.
