PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI (Ben Caxton) — The 45th Annual Eagles Heart and Cancer telethon held over the weekend reached another record this year by raising over $52,000 Saturday night. That broke last year’s record of $46,500. Under the theme “We are Among Friends” the 2020 the telethon also surpassed the one million dollar mark all-time during the telethon just after midnight. The local Eagle’s Club, Aeries 1502, who made the very first donation of one dollar the first year of the telethon, made the donation from its annual fundraising events at their club that put the total over the one million dollar mark. The annual telethon which is broadcast live at Bluffview School over local Channel 6 has surpassed previous record years the last several years. In recent years online streaming of the telethon has made it possible for people all over the United States to tune in to see area talent take the stage and call in pledges to raise money for Heart and Cancer research. All money raised at the annual telethon is donated to Mayo Clinic, Gundersen, and also the UW Madison heart and cancer research centers.
