Coon Valley Pilot Uninjured in Grant County Cornfield Landing

BOSCOBEL, WI (Ben Caxton) — A 22-year-old pilot from Coon Valley was not injured after declaring a “May-Day” and guiding his plane to an emergency landing in a Grant County cornfield over the weekend. Colten Jaekel was trying to land at the Boscobel airport when his plane experienced an engine failure. His emergency call was heard by controllers at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport who contacted the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies eventually located the plane in a cornfield between Boscobel and Woodman around 1:30 PM. The incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
