La Crosse Students Push “spring Peeper” for New State Amphibian

LA CROSSE, WI (Ben Caxton) — A group of students from La Crosse want to add the ubiquitous Spring Peeper to the list of Wisconsin state animals. `That’s the ubiquitous sound of the spring peeper mating call, a familiar noise across Wisconsin once the thaw starts. Students from Summit Environmental School want to make the Peeper the state amphibian, an idea championed by state Senator Janet Bewley at Wednesday’s hearing of the assembly committee on state affairs.`
