Firefighters Battle Flames “as High As a Corn Silo”

GREENFIELD, WI (Ben Caxton) — No one was injured in a Wednesday night barn fire near Greenfield that took look volunteer crews hours to completely extinguish. Town of Shelby Assistant Chief Tony Holinka told local La Crosse television stations that when they arrived at the site shortly after 4:15 PM they found flames shooting out of the barn “as high as the corn silo.” Assisting at the fire scene on Highway 33 southeast of La Crosse were firefighters from La Crosse Fire, Onalaska, Holmen, Campbell, Stoddard, Coon Valley, and West Salem.
