VIROQUA, WI (Ben Caxton) — Memorial Day will seem a little different this year for area residents. There will be no parades or gatherings for programs like in the past all due to the pandemic. Viroqua will have a virtual Memorial Day Program on WVRQ AM1360 FM 107.3 beginning at 10:30 AM with veterans and high school students speaking and singing. The Program will also available on the WVRQ Facebook Page sometime later Monday. The combined color guard from the Viroqua American Legion Post 138 and Viroqua V.F.W. will visit the Pioneer Cemetary at 9;45 and the Viroqua Cemetary at 10 a.m. On Monday and pay tribute to our deceased veterans. The Viroqua legion and V.F.W. have already placed flags at 21 cemeteries prior to Memorial Day. That project is coordinated by Viroqua Legion Commander Peder Swanson with the help of high school students. Eric Sherry of the Viroqua V.F.W. led a group placing 780 flags at the Viroqua Cemetary. The Coon Valley American Legion Post 116 will conduct military rites Monday at the Koethe (KOH thee) Cemetery at 7:30, at Trinity Church of Christ in Mormon Coulee at 7:45, St. Joseph Ridge Church at 8 a.m., The North Ridge Cemetary at 8:30, Esofea(EE so fee ah) Bethany Lutheran Church at 9 and Coon Valley Lutheran Church at 9:30.
