A rural Black River Falls man is in custody in connection with a child abduction on Wednesday

LACK RIVER FALLS, Wis.(Ben Caxton) – A rural Black River Falls man is in custody in connection with a child abduction on Wednesday.

Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera said they got a call shortly after 1 pm of a possible child abduction in Taylor.

The report was that a 9-year-old child got into a truck with an older man.

The sheriff said that during the initial response, the child’s grandparent found the child with the man several blocks away. Although the child was recovered, the man drove off before deputies could arrive.

Later, a Conservation Warden found the truck and man several miles outside of Taylor on County Highway C.

Based on what the man told deputies who questioned him, he was arrested for abduction of a another’s child and criminal trespassing.

He was identified by the sheriff’s office as Bernard L. Stubrud, 67, or rural Black River Falls.

Sheriff Waldera said although the case is still under investigation, there is no further danger or threat to the community.
