KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) – Menominee tribal leaders say they hope to meet soon with Governor Scott Walker to discuss how their proposed off-reservation casino in Kenosha at a shuttered greyhound track would bring much-needed development for them and the area.

Tribal vice chairwoman Lisa Waukau and tribal legislator Gary Besaw spoke Saturday at the Dairyland Greyhound Park, one day after the U.S. Interior Department approved the project.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the main opposition comes from the Forest County Potawatomi tribe, which operates a casino in Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley. Ken Walsh, a Potawatomi lobbyist, says many believe the Wisconsin casino market is saturated.

Walker’ office reiterated Friday his criteria for approving an off-reservation casino, which include “no new net gaming” in the state and a “consensus” in support among Wisconsin’s 11 tribes.
