On 08/22/2013 at 08:35Pm The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a vehicle that crashed into a residence in at 606 Church Street in the village of Soldiers Grove. A 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Richard J. Puryear, age 25 of Rockford, IL was operating northbound on Church Street when Puryear lost control of the vehicle causing it to flip and came to rest against a residence. The residence sustained damage due to the crash. Puryear and his passenger Thomas T. Ashley, age 22 of Alken , SC were transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital.

Puryear was charged with Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ashley was charged with possession of marijuana as well.

Assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was North Crawford Rescue, Soldiers Grove Fire Department, Digger Don’s Towing and Vernon Memorial Hospital.

On 08/23/2013 at approximately 02:20am The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received a report from Vernon County Sheriff’s Department of a two vehicle crash at Church Street and Cedar Street in the village of Soldiers grove. An off duty Vernon County Deputy observed two vehicles collide with one another and observed both vehicles leave the scene of the crash. The Deputy followed a 2005 Ford 500 vehicle into Readstown and observed two male occupants park and walk into an apartment building. A search warrant was conducted at the residence in Vernon County. The two males involved in the crash were located inside the residence and were identified as Alexander J. Campbell age 22 of Soldiers Grove who was the driver, and his passenger Jonlazaire C. Burch age 32 of Madison. The other vehicle involved in the accident was a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer and was later located in the village of Soldiers Grove. It was determined that Jessica Jobs age 25 of Soldiers Grove, was the driver at the time of the accident.

Both male parties were arrested and transported to Crawford County Jail. A search warrant was conducted on their vehicle and marijuana and several drug paraphernalia items were discovered inside.

Campbell was charged with Hit and Run. Both Campbell and Burch are being referred for charges of possession of Marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Assisting the Crawford Sheriff’s Department was Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Vernon County K9 and Clayton County K9 Unit.

ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 2013 AT 4:28 PM THE CRAWFORD COUNTY DISPATCH CENTER WAS NOTIFIED OF A ONE VEHICLE CRASH ON COUNTY ROAD N, WAUZEKA RIDGE, 4 MILES EAST OF STATE HIGHWAY 27.

RACHEL MEZERA AGE 19 OF PRAIRIE DU CHIEN WAS DRIVING A 2001 OLDS ALERO WEST ON “N” NEGOTIATING A CURVE. SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WENT INTO THE DITCH, CRASHING INTO A FENCE OWNED BY DAVID SLAGHT.

MEZERA WAS NOT INJURED. HER VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR REAR DAMAGE AND WAS DRIVEN FROM THE SCENE.

MEZERA WAS CITED FOR OPERATOR FAILURE TO KEEP VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL.

ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 2013 AT 12:25 PM THE CRAWFORD COUNTY DISPATCH CENTER WAS NOTIFIED OF A TWO VEHICLE CRASH ON STATE HIGHWAY 35, 1 MILE NORTH OF LYNXVILLE.

MATTHEW NELSON AGE28 OF LACROSSE WAS DRIVING A 1999 FORD VAN SOUTH ON 35, HE PULLED OUT TO PASS A SOUTHBOUND 2012 GMC SUV DRIVEN BY KATHERINE EDWARDS AGE 69 OF BLOOMINGTON. EDWARDS AT THE SAME TIME WAS PULLING OUT TO PASS, BOTH VEHICLES SIDESWIPED, CAUSING EDWARDS VEHICLE TO CROSS THE ROADWAY GO INTO THE LEFT DITCH AND OVERTURN TWICE BEFORE COMING TO STOP ON ITS WHEELS.

EDWARDS WAS TAKEN TO PRAIRIE DU CHIEN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, TREATED FOR BUMPS AND BRUISES. NELSON AND HIS PASSENGER TYRA NEHRING AGE 33 OF LACROSSE ESCAPED INJURY.

NELSON’S VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGE AND WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. EDWARDS VEHICLE SUSTAINED HEAVY DAMAGE AND WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE.

NELSON WAS CHARGED WITH OPERATING VEHICLE WITHOUT INSURANCE.

ASSISTING AT THE SCENE WERE SENECA 1ST RESPONDERS, SENECA FIRE DEPARTMENT, TRI-STATE AMBULANCE AND BOB’S TOWING.
