A state lawmaker from the Milwaukee area has announced plans to resign his seat in the Legislature. State Representative Mark Honadel(R-South Milwaukee) will step down in mid-September to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.

Honadel did not indicate where he will be working after he leaves the state Assembly.

In a statement released Tuesday, Honadel said “It has been an extreme honor and pleasure to serve my constituents as their voice in Madison. On their behalf I helped enact significant reforms that balanced the state budget without raising taxes, held the line on property taxes, and created a state surplus. I am pleased to have worked hard on many other meaningful bills that have benefited our state’s economy and way of life for the people of Wisconsin.”

Honadel has served in the Legislature since 2003, after winning his seat representing the 21st Assembly District in a special election. A special election will likely be held to fill his seat later this fall.
